Autodesk Official Learning Guide

I’ve dipped into a couple of DVD’s that were available via the Staffordshire Library resources. The first is the Autodesk Official Training Guide.

Within the early chapters the book deals with areas we are working with Neil on during our classroom-based study, namely Importing Image Planes, Modelling, Unwrapping & Polygon Texturing. All will need to be employed on the Auriga project!

Modelling a Body
 Early problems:
Although the book includes a training DVD I could not get the files to become read/write hence I got the message the training manual highlights. I don’t know what consequences this will have down the line so battled on regardless.

I also realised early that the so call ‘basics’ are never that ‘basic’ and the DVD & book don’t seem to tally together leaving me wondering which to follow?

Anyhow, after importing the image planes of the character Charlie Ann and messing with the layout of the image planes/camera’s I found some frustrations with the 4-perspective view, and not unusually, it didn’t seem to match the settings we work on at College? Also the Top view camera never seemed to be on-top & no amount of faffing got it in the air. I found the view setting and turned the camera off! :(

The Body:
The modelling itself was also tricky, despite the step-by-step instruction. The cube creation was fine but once the ‘vertices’ were highlighted ‘scaling’ them proved a nightmare. So I have done the best I could, in isolation and saved them to file for Neil to point out where I have gone horribly wrong,. I have gone horribly wrong.
The Head:
The head started off more promising and after a few hours looked vaguely head like. The problems came again when pulling the ‘vertices’ to match the image. Worse still was creating the ears, that now seem stuck to one another and the eyes were a no starter. In conclusion I need HELP!
